By TCG Emporium Editorial Team · Published 18 October 2026 · Updated 18 October 2026

Pikachu ex 238/191 is the Surging Sparks chase card, and nothing else in the set is close. Raw copies have been selling for £178 to £202, more than half again what the second card, Latias ex 239/191, fetches. Two years after release, the order at the top has settled.

Pikachu ex 238/191

The card the set is remembered for. GIDORA puts Pikachu at the centre of a Tera crown of crystal shards, bright and busy in the way the best Scarlet & Violet special illustration rares are. Pikachu is the series mascot, which explains a lot, but the art carries it too.

Six raw sales between 16 and 17 October ran from £34 to £217. The £34 sale was well off the pace and is the kind of figure the trimming rule exists for: the middle four sat between £178 and £202.

Graded copies are plentiful. Over 11,000 have a PSA 10, so a 10 is not scarce in the way it is on a newer set. PSA 10 sales have a median of about £652, a little over three times a raw copy. That multiple is lower than on several cards further down this list, which is what a big graded population does.

Latias ex 239/191

The quieter favourite. OKACHEKE's Latias skims low over a sunlit town, and the card has the calm, storybook feel that many collectors prefer to the louder chase cards. Raw sales sit between £109 and £136.

It pairs with Latios 203/191, drawn by the same artist. Many collectors want both, and that link helps explain why an illustration rare sits in the top six.

Milotic ex 237/191

Elegant, and the widest price spread in the top three. Kuroimori draws Milotic in long, flowing curves. Recent raw sales ran from £46 to £104, which says condition and centring matter a lot to buyers here. Read the photos before you pay the upper end.

Pikachu ex 247/191

The gold Pikachu. The Hyper Rare is the gold version of the Pikachu ex card. It sells for £46 to £64 raw, about a third of the special illustration rare, which tells you collectors here pay for artwork more than for gold.

Latios 203/191, the grading outlier

Raw, Latios 203/191 sells for £18 to £31. A PSA 10 has a median of about £187, roughly eight times a raw copy. That is the biggest raw-to-PSA 10 gap of any card on this list.

That gap tells you where the value sits: a clean, well-centred Latios is worth far more than an average one. It does not tell you that grading one will pay. Fees, postage both ways and the chance of a 9 rather than a 10 all come off the top. Our UK grading guide walks through those costs.

Further down the list

  • Hydreigon ex 240/191 by AKIRA EGAWA is dark and dramatic, and sells for £18 to £30 raw.
  • Durant ex 236/191 by osare is the set's comedy card, a column of Durant marching across a desert. It costs about the same as Hydreigon raw.
  • Pikachu ex 219/191, the Ultra Rare full art, is the cheapest Pikachu ex in the set at around £19. Over 10,000 have a PSA 10.

How we priced these cards

We read the most recent raw eBay completed sales for each card, up to ten, from CardTrack's sold-sales ledger, which covers the UK, US and other eBay sites. With six or more sales we drop the single highest and lowest, then quote the range of the rest. Dollars are converted at £0.7499 (16 October 2026).

PSA 10 figures are the median of PSA 10 completed sales, shown only where at least 500 copies hold that grade. The population figures are PSA's own counts as recorded in the ledger. The full method is in our guide on how to value Pokémon cards.

A note on pull rates

We do not publish pull rates for Surging Sparks. There are no official odds, and community estimates vary with sample size and product. Our guide to pull rates explains why.

Collector notes

  • Three cards called Pikachu ex. 238 is the special illustration rare, 247 the gold Hyper Rare and 219 the Ultra Rare. The number is the only quick way to tell which one a listing means.
  • Graded supply is deep. With five-figure PSA 10 populations on the Pikachu cards, there is no shortage of slabs. Compare several graded sales before you pay above the median.
  • Latias and Latios belong together. Same artist, matching scenes, and they sit well side by side in a binder.
  • Check the reverse holo isn't being sold as something more. Main-set cards have reverse holo versions that share the standard card's number. Our guide to holo and reverse holo cards shows the difference.

Questions collectors ask

What is the most valuable Surging Sparks card?

Pikachu ex 238/191, the special illustration rare by GIDORA. Recent raw sales run from £178 to £202, with PSA 10 copies around £652.

How many cards are in Surging Sparks?

191 in the main set and 61 secret cards, 252 in total.

Is a PSA 10 Surging Sparks Pikachu ex rare?

Not especially. PSA has graded over 11,000 copies at 10. That is why a PSA 10 sells for about three times a raw copy rather than many times more.

Next review due 18 January 2027. We update this guide sooner when prices shift by more than a fifth, or a reprint of Surging Sparks reaches UK shops.
