Payment Information
We do not take payments yet. The shop has not opened and we have not chosen which payment methods to switch on. This page sets out what we will do, the rights UK law already gives you when you pay, and what is still undecided.
Payment methods we will accept
We have not chosen our payment methods. When we have, this page will name each one, and it will list only the methods that are actually switched on. Any card logo or payment button shown before then is a mistake, and we would like to hear about it.
Some options, such as pay-later credit, are offered by their provider only to some shoppers after its own checks. If we switch one on, we will not promise that it appears for you, because that decision belongs to the provider.
When your order is confirmed
Our terms of sale are not written yet, and they will say exactly when an order becomes a contract. What the law already fixes is the confirmation. Regulation 16 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 says a shop selling at a distance must confirm the contract in a durable form, such as an email, within a reasonable time and no later than delivery. We will send that email for every order.
If a payment fails or you stop part way
If you stop part way and are not sure whether an order went through, look for our confirmation email before you try again, so you do not pay twice. If a payment is declined, check that the billing address matches the one your bank holds, then try once more. Only your bank can say why it declined.
If money leaves your account and no confirmation email follows, email us with the date, the time and the amount shown on your statement. Once our business details are set up, this page will say what name appears on your statement.
Discount codes and gift cards
We have not decided whether to offer discount codes or gift cards. If we do, this page will explain how they work.
Where you will pay
We plan to take payments through a payment provider's own hosted payment pages. You will type your card details on the provider's pages, not ours. We have not named the provider yet, and this page will say which it is before we take a payment.
Our site has no form that asks for a card number, and we will never ask for one by email, phone or message. If someone claiming to be us asks for card details, do not give them, and forward the message to hello@tcgemporium.com.
Your bank may ask you to confirm a payment, for example in its app or with a code sent by text. This is strong customer authentication, which the Financial Conduct Authority describes as a way to protect your money from fraudsters.
Fees for paying by card
Since 13 January 2018, UK shops may not charge you a fee for paying by a personal debit or credit card, or by similar methods such as PayPal. That comes from the Consumer Rights (Payment Surcharges) Regulations 2012 as amended. We will not add one.
A shop also needs your express consent before taking any payment on top of what you agreed to pay for the goods, and a pre-ticked box does not count (regulation 40 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013). We will not pre-tick anything that adds to your total.
Refunds and the card you paid with
If you cancel an order within your legal cancellation period, regulation 34 of the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 says the refund must be made without undue delay. Where the shop has not offered to collect the goods, that means no later than 14 days after the shop gets them back, or after you show you have sent them back, whichever is earlier. Otherwise the 14 days run from the day you tell the shop you are cancelling.
The refund must go back by the same means you paid, unless you expressly agree to something else, and the shop may not charge you for refunding. Our returns page explains how cancelling will work.
Paying by credit card
Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 can make a credit card provider equally liable with the seller if something goes wrong, such as goods that break the contract or were misdescribed. It applies to a single item whose cost sits within the lower and upper limits the Act sets.
Questions about paying
Email hello@tcgemporium.com or use the contact page. Never send a full card number, the security code on the back of the card or your online banking details.
This page will be updated when we have: Payment provider, and Josh's confirmation that it may be named on this page (internal plan is Shopify via the Storefront API); Payment methods actually enabled with the provider (cards, wallets, PayPal or others), so the page can name each one and show only those logos; Whether any pay-later or credit option will be enabled, and through which provider; A connected store, so the hosted payment page handoff and the abandoned-payment behaviour can be tested against what the page says; Terms of sale stating the exact point an order is placed and becomes a contract; Business name as it will appear on bank statements (statement descriptor); Discount code policy: whether codes exist and whether they can be combined; Gift card policy: whether gift cards are sold, and how balances and expiry work; Support handling for a payment taken with no confirmation email: who checks and any reply time to promise; Whether the shop will ever offer to collect returned goods (decides which regulation 34 refund deadline applies); Return address and returns process, so the refund section can link to a complete returns page.
