Battle Styles V Strikers Tin - Tyranitar V (International Version)
English · Booster packsBattle StylesChoosing Pokémon tins
A tin is a metal box with booster packs inside and, usually, a promo card on the front. They come in two sizes that are really two different products, so it helps to be clear which one you mean.
Full-size tins
A full-size tin holds several booster packs, often from a mix of recent sets, and one or more foil promo cards shown on the lid. The promo is the reason most people buy one: it is a card you cannot pull from a pack, printed for that tin. The packs inside are stated on the back of the tin and vary by release; we will quote the exact list on each product page. The tin itself is sturdy enough to store a few hundred sleeved cards afterwards, which is more than can be said for most packaging.
Mini tins
A mini tin is smaller, holds two booster packs and one art card or sticker sheet, and is sold in sets of five or so designs for a given set. There is no promo card in a mini tin; the art card is an illustration card, not a playable one. Mini tins are the cheapest sealed product in most set lines and are often bought as the complete run of designs. We will list each design as its own product and the display of all designs as another, so you can buy one or the lot.
Which sets have them
Most recent sets have a run of mini tins: 151, Prismatic Evolutions, Mega Evolution, Ascended Heroes and Black Bolt among them. Full-size tins are released on their own schedule rather than per set, usually built around a particular Pokémon, and we will list them under the set whose packs they mostly contain.
Who a tin suits
Gifts, mostly. A tin is the one sealed product that does not need wrapping. Promo collectors want the full-size tins for the card on the front. Mini tins suit someone who wants two packs and something to keep them in. A pure pack-opener will get more packs for the money from a booster bundle.
How we will check them
Tins are shrink-wrapped, and the wrap is what we will look at: a factory wrap has a clean seam and sits tight to the lid. A tin with loose or re-wrapped film stays out of the shop. Dents on the tin itself do not affect the cards but we will describe them.
Questions we get asked
What is the difference between a tin and a mini tin?
Size, contents and the promo. A full-size tin has several packs and a promo card on the lid. A mini tin has two packs and an art card, and comes in a run of designs for one set.
Is the art card in a mini tin playable?
No. It is an illustration card with no game text. The promo cards in full-size tins are real, playable promos.
Are the packs in a tin from the set on the lid?
Not always. Full-size tins often mix packs from two or three recent sets. The back of the tin lists them and so will our page.
Can I buy a full run of mini tins?
Yes, as the display, which holds one of each design. We will list the display and the individual tins separately.
