Best Pokémon Elite Trainer Boxes to Buy

By TCG Emporium Editorial Team · Published 17 October 2026 · Updated 17 October 2026

The best Pokémon Elite Trainer Box for most people is the standard ETB of the set they most want to open. Every standard box in the table below holds nine booster packs and one full-art promo card, and the Pokémon Center edition of the same set holds eleven packs and two copies of that promo. The contents here come from each product's own page on pokemon.com, read on 17 October 2026, and the pack size comes from Pokémon Support. After that, the choice comes down to the promo, the kit and who the box is for.

Which ETB fits your goal?

For a first collection, the Mega Evolution Phantasmal Flames Elite Trainer Box is a sound example. Its pokemon.com page pitches it as a box for starting a collection, and the contents list backs that up with nine packs, 65 sleeves, 40 Energy cards and a box with six dividers. Nine packs show you how a set is built without committing to a 36-pack booster box. Every standard Mega Evolution box in the table lists the same kit, so if another set's artwork appeals more, only the cards and the promo change.

For a gift, look at the 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box. pokemon.com presents the set as a celebration of 30 years of Pokémon, and says each booster pack contains one Pikachu rare card, with 30 variations to collect. The promo is an illustration of 30 Nidorina, which is number 30 in the Pokédex. The gift ideas guide covers other sealed options and accessories.

For someone who collects Eevee, the Scarlet & Violet Prismatic Evolutions Elite Trainer Box is the obvious match. Its promo is Eevee and its 65 sleeves show Eevee as a Stellar Tera Pokémon. Its code card also includes sleeves and a full-art promo for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live.

For an existing collection, buy the ETB of the set you are already collecting. The promo is listed separately from the packs, so the box gives you one card beyond what nine packs would. If you want both versions of that promo, the Pokémon Center edition adds a second copy carrying the Pokémon Center logo, plus two more packs.

Compare the exact ETB versions

All ten sets in the table come in two editions, and pokemon.com gives each edition its own product page. We read both pages for every set. In every pair the Pokémon Center contents list shows eleven packs against nine. It also shows two copies of the full-art promo, one with the Pokémon Center logo, against one.

Nine of the ten pairs list every other item identically. The exception is Prismatic Evolutions, where the Pokémon Center edition's code card also includes a deck box for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. That one difference is reason enough not to assume the pattern for a set outside this table. Read the contents on the page for the exact edition you want.

The contents lists also differ by product line. The Scarlet & Violet boxes in the table (151, Prismatic Evolutions and Destined Rivals) list 45 Energy cards, two plastic condition markers and four dividers. The Mega Evolution boxes list 40 Energy cards, one plastic coin and six dividers. The 30th Celebration boxes list 16 foil Basic Energy cards and otherwise match the Mega Evolution kit.

One wrinkle matters if you read the official pages yourself. The descriptive text for Pitch Black and Chaos Rising mentions condition markers, while the contents lists for both editions show a plastic coin and no markers. This guide follows the contents list. The first Mega Evolution box lists its promo as Riolu or Alakazam, so you get one of the two.

What is inside each box?

Every box in the table also lists 65 card sleeves, a player's guide to its set and a code card for Pokémon Trading Card Game Live. Pokémon Support says a booster pack holds ten game cards, so nine packs is 90 game cards and eleven is 110. All twenty rows are English-language products, read on the UK pokemon.com pages. The 30th Celebration standard page lists its Nidorina promo as full-art without the word foil, so the table does the same.

Cost per pack and useful extras

There are no figures on this page, because the shop has not opened and we will not quote other sellers. Do the sum with the figures you are quoted. Divide the cost of the box by nine, or by eleven for a Pokémon Center edition. Compare the result with one loose pack of the same set, and with a booster bundle divided by six. The gap is what you pay for the promo and the kit.

The kit is a matter of taste, and no sum settles it. A player uses the Energy cards, the damage-counter dice and the coin-flip die in every game. A collector who never plays will use the sleeves, dividers and box, and may put the Energy cards in a drawer.

The promo is the part of an ETB that matters most to a collector of that set. If you want that card, the ETB is the product to buy. If you do not, the kit is the only reason to choose an ETB over loose packs or a bundle. Sleeve sizes and what to keep a growing pile in are covered in the storage guide.

When to choose a bundle, box or singles

If you want packs of a set and nothing else, a booster bundle is the smaller buy. pokemon.com describes the 30th Celebration Booster Bundle as six booster packs and lists nothing else with it. Two bundles give you twelve packs against the ETB's nine, with no promo and no kit.

If you want a lot of one main set, a 36-pack booster box is the largest sealed unit short of a case. Where a set has one, run the same per-pack sum to compare it with an ETB.

Not every set has a booster box. The official product line-up for Prismatic Evolutions lists two ETBs, a booster bundle and several collection products such as the Binder Collection and the Surprise Box, and no booster box. For a set like that, the ETB and the bundle are the plainest ways to buy packs.

If you want particular cards, packs are the wrong tool. Pokémon Support says it cannot guarantee a specific Pokémon or type of card in any pack. The pull rates guide explains what published pull rates can and cannot tell you. Buying the single card is the only way to be sure of having it.

The product formats guide sets the main sealed formats side by side. Use it when the set is settled and the format is not.

Availability and substitutions

There is no stock to report, because the shop has not opened. What pokemon.com does say is where each edition is sold, and the wording varies by page. The Pokémon Center pages for Mega Evolution and Phantasmal Flames say that edition is sold at the Pokémon Center. The pages for Ascended Heroes, Prismatic Evolutions and 151 go further, saying exclusively or only at the Pokémon Center.

The other five Pokémon Center pages carry no line either way. So we will not treat a Pokémon Center edition as something we can offer in place of a standard box. When we open, each ETB listing will name the set and the edition, and give the contents as printed on the box.

Substitute only when the reason you wanted the box still holds. If you wanted the kit for a first collection, another standard Mega Evolution ETB is a close swap, since all six in the table list the same sleeves, Energy count, dice, coin and dividers. If you wanted the promo, there is no swap, because each set in the table has a different ETB promo.

If you wanted packs of one set, a booster bundle of that set is the fair swap, with three fewer packs and no kit. A box from another set does not meet that goal, however similar it looks. A Scarlet & Violet box offered in place of a Mega Evolution one will also differ in the kit, with 45 Energy, condition markers and four dividers against 40 Energy, a coin and six dividers.

The next useful page is the Elite Trainer Box hub. It is where the ETBs we plan to carry will sit, each under its set, when we open.
